Unfinished Business within our family of origin can deprive us of a successful and exciting Third Age. It is truly amazing how long the unresolved issues with our mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers last into our later years if they are not resolved. These ghosts of the past steal energy and limit our lives. Until we begin working on the resolutions to these problems we will be confined in prisons of the present and susceptible to fears of the future.
We have also found that many people, close to 70% of all those we have interviewed, have major problems with or alienated from one or more of their adult children. The dream that our Third Age can peacefully be spent with our children is often just that, a dream. Similarly, many Third Agers are caring for aging parents. The stress of being a "sandwich generation" can be considerable. The Third Age Foundation has extensive experience helping Third Agers with these problems.
