Third Age International and the Third Age Foundation are social entrepreneur organizations - our goal is to act for the public good by identifying and solving problems experienced by a huge sector of society, namely the 75,000,000 people in or about to be in their Third Age of life. These are our most valuable untapped resource because of their spirituality, wisdom, experience and their desire to give. Our society, however, currently values youth. This causes a huge segment of Third Agers to begin feeling devalued and disrespected as they age. As a result, they tend to become uninvolved in the overall social effort and a drag on society. When they deprive the system of their active contribution, it places an untenable burden on the social structure.
The work of our two organizations is targeted not only towards immediate effects with individuals, but sweeping, long-term change with the entire demographic of the Third Age. In effecting this great social change, Third Age International and the Third Age Foundation primarily seek to generate social value rather than profits. Therefore, the Third Age Foundation is a federally approved 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.
Dr. Peter Brill, host of a previous radio show, The Third Age and author of the insightful Taming Your Turmoil: Managing the Transitions of Adult Life, and David Debin, film producer, author and teacher, provide case studies gleaned from hundreds of interviews. Using spiritual and psychological techniques put into practice in workshops and individual coaching, they have designed a system of 7 Steps people can use to free themselves from ghosts of the past, prisons of the present and fears of the future. The program is designed to guide people to the experience of joy as they resolve their unfinished business and move into a fulfilling and optimistic future.
As they go through the program, participants ascend the 7 Steps to Passion, Purpose and Joy. The steps are: Awareness of Spiritual Energy; Calming the Mind; Opening the Heart; Daring to Dream; Having Fun and Being Playful; Finding True Purpose; Taking Creative Risk. Taking these steps clears the energy trapped within us and allows us to live freely, experiencing passion for life in ever-greater abundance.
The Third Age Foundation provides support groups, seminars, workshops, coaching and retreats. Working with individuals, groups and organizations, Third Age Foundation trainers help people take their destiny into their own hands and make the most of the unique opportunities afforded by this potential-laden time of life. In addition, The Third Age Foundation, in association with Santa Barbara City College Adult Extension (which serves over 50,000 individuals), is currently producing a lecture series which presents the most prominent experts in all areas of aging.
