For Widows and Widowers

With the loss of a spouse, many widows and widowers find themselves surrounded by friends and family, offering well-intentioned support, love and practical help or advice. If that is your situation you know better than anyone that, in the end, you are the one left behind, alone, and that's how you feel - alone. Coping alone, grieving alone, making important decisions alone. You feel like half of a whole, and even if there were significant problems in your relationship, having half of your life taken away is painful, like being cut in two. In fact, often a relationship with unresolved problems leaves the widow or widower with a more painful grieving process, dealing with guilt's and regrets never fully addressed.

The Third Age Foundation works with widows and widowers left behind by the untimely death of their spouse. In our groups and coaching we provide deep understanding and support, critical to the emotional and spiritual recovery of a widow or widower. Third Age Foundation groups are neither therapy nor grief support gatherings. For you, the survivor, left to deal with the almost unbearable aloneness, we provide a place to experience spiritual rejuvenation. This happens not only by sharing your inner struggles with others, but through helping others deal with the difficult transitions of their own Third Age, whether they be career, relationship, spirituality, divorce, retirement, or any of the challenges facing us all as we move into this often difficult time of life.

With the spiritual support and prayers of other Third Agers, you will find avenues that heal and give direction as to how to go forward. We know that toughest battle for widows and widowers is loneliness. The quiet in a home of two people is much different than the quiet found when you are alone. Being at home, enjoying a peaceful afternoon alone with no interruptions, is a welcomed respite; being at home with the knowledge that the front door will not be opened at a familiar time can be overwhelming. Let a Third Age Foundation coach or group help open a door for you in this time of loss.
